Contractor Exam Pro is an independent study resource for tradespeople going independent and facing a state contractor licensing exam. It launches California first, on the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) path, and is built to scale to the other PSI and Pearson VUE states. Our one job is to get you through the licensing gate with correct, current, sourced information and a free practice test, not a sales pitch.

Who runs it

Contractor Exam Pro is operated by Urban Algorithm LLC and maintained by the Contractor Exam Pro editorial team. We are an independent publisher. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or administered by CSLB, PSI, NASCLA, or any government agency or licensing board, and we never imply otherwise. When we name an exam or a board, it is for accuracy, not to suggest a partnership that does not exist.

Our editorial standards

These are the four rules that govern every fee, requirement, and figure we publish. They are the reason a page here can be trusted the day you read it, not just the day it was written.

Every figure is sourced and dated

Fees, bond amounts, experience rules, and exam facts each cite a primary source (CSLB, PSI, or the state board) and carry a visible last-reviewed date. A fee schedule that is out of date teaches a wrong answer, so provenance is not optional.

Checked against the primary source

We confirm each fee and format fact directly against the CSLB, PSI, or the state board and stamp it with the date we last checked it, rather than carrying numbers forward on trust.

Confirmed vs reported, never blurred

Where CSLB does not publish a number (for example the exact exam question count or passing score), we say so and label commonly cited figures as reported, not official, rather than dressing them up as fact.

No faked credibility signals

No invented pass-rate statistics, no fake reviews, no claimed affiliation. Corrections are welcome and we fix errors quickly.

How we write practice questions

Every practice question on this site is original, written from scratch against the public CSLB and PSI exam blueprints and the underlying California Business and Professions Code, which are facts and not copyrightable. Nothing is copied, scraped, or reworded from PSI practice tests, any prep provider's question bank, or the commentary unique to CSLB's copyrighted License Law and Reference Book. We author questions and explanations from the statute and the public exam outline only, and we record the source blueprint domain for each one. Original questions are a legal-safety and accuracy standard we hold ourselves to, not a marketing claim.

How we make money

The core content and the practice test are free. Where we recommend a genuinely useful paid service (for example forming an LLC or buying a contractor bond), we may use an affiliate link and earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We disclose those links and only include a service when we believe it actually helps. We do not sell your data.
